That reading is below absolute zero (-273.15°C / -459.67°F / 0 K) -
no physical temperature can be that low.
How to convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit
°F = (K × 9/5) − 459.67
To convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 and subtract 459.67. The 9/5 factor expands kelvins into the smaller Fahrenheit degrees; subtracting 459.67 then moves zero from absolute zero up to the Fahrenheit zero point.
Worked examples
- Convert 300 K: 300 × 9/5 = 540; 540 − 459.67 = 80.33°F
- Convert 273.15 K: 273.15 × 9/5 = 491.67; 491.67 − 459.67 = 32°F (freezing)
- Convert 373.15 K: 373.15 × 9/5 = 671.67; 671.67 − 459.67 = 212°F (boiling)
