That reading is below absolute zero (-273.15°C / -459.67°F / 0 K) -
no physical temperature can be that low.
How to convert Kelvin to Rankine
°R = K × 1.8
Kelvin and Rankine are the two absolute scales - both put 0 at absolute zero - so converting between them is pure scaling: multiply kelvins by 1.8 to get Fahrenheit-sized Rankine degrees. No offsets involved.
Worked examples
- Convert 300 K: 300 × 1.8 = 540 °R
- Convert 273.15 K: 273.15 × 1.8 = 491.67 °R (water freezes)

Frequently asked questions
Is 0 K the same as 0 °R?
Yes - both scales place zero exactly at absolute zero. Only the degree size differs (1 K = 1.8 °R).
