What's New in Temperature Sensors

October 2001

Last month's 'What's New" page is archived and accessible via the News page.

Temperature SensorNews back copies are also archived and accessible through the News page page in the event you miss one or need to check something you saw months earlier. The first Newsletter is dated September 2001!

You may be receiving an email inviting you to sign up for the e-Newsletter TemperatureSensorNews. If not, an on-line sign up will be available shortly; check this page regularly for the announcement. One thing to know, your email address will always remain confidential. Any email address received for this site's activities will never be sold!

Featured New Products- for a second month in a row!

Two-Dimensional Thermal Data Viewer from Two-Dimensional Instruments -2DI

The Thermal Data Viewer is a compact battery or ac-powered two-channel temperature recorder that graphically displays analog or digital sensor readings (thermistor or thermocouple)and trends along with the current temperature(s). Temperature is sampled at user-defined intervals, stored in onboard memory, and instantly displayed on the LCD as a line or bar graph. One can change the displayed time period and temperature range with a push of a button to zoom into an area of interest. Scrolling through past temperatures, one can see the thermal trend, the times at which events occurred and their effects. Data can also be downloaded to a computer for analysis and archival purposes.

New Pages

Dewpoint & Humidity Information about moisture measurement in gases, dewpoint temperature, the types of sensors and some vendor listings.
Steel Applications An outline of intended applications coverage for both Thermocouple and Infrared temperature sensors; eventually will include full copies of technical papers on use of Infrared Spot and Thermal Imaging sensors in Steel Mills and why certain types of these sensors perform better than others.
Slag Detection By IR ThermographyAn overview of this relatively new and expanding application of Infrared Thermal Imaging equipment including a list of key references and patents, available copies of technical papers and a listing of web connections to equipment vendors.

Next Month's Plans

Major update to Thermistor and Thermistor Vendor pages in the works as a result of new contacts made at October's Philadelphia Sensors Expo. and better appreciation of the wide range of thermistor applications.

A new page on temperature conversions (sigh...we really didn't think it was necessary, but too many want it done). So, we are combining the conversions with a bit more information about the five, six (or maybe more) temperature scales that are out there. The page is on the site but not yet callable by a direct link. You can visit the preliminary version at www.temperatures.com/scales.html. All pre-publishing feedback greatly appreciated.

A review of a NEW SPIE book on IR temperature measurement errors is in the works, too. The book has been added to the list of available temperature reference works of the References Page.
